Non-Traditional Security Threats in Pakistan: Role of Non-State Actors


Introduction

 The Pakistan is just a short story with no background. In Actual, the whole world is getting in touch with non-traditional security threats. These security threats as a most serious threat to the world peace. The National Assembly has endorsed the fact many times. There are some security threats that can consider by state and can assess easily. But here is the issue of Non-traditional security threats to Pakistan.

No one can deny the reality that non-traditional security is there with the role of non-state actors here in Pakistan. The country is there failed state according to the west but same west created non-state actors in the region. The issue is not a new but it is a consistent issue with no solution at all. Sustainable development needs to ensure the same thing and here is no answer to the question. The recent performance of Pakistan in getting sustainable development Goals is no way different from the role of these non-state actors here in the country.

There are many non-military sources that mostly prevail in environment and impact upon Pakistan and its international worth. The recent climate change is also a non-traditional security threat that is beyond the non-military sources. The climate change gets the shortage of food and nothing to do with the development here in Pakistan. The climate change means there is a shortage of food and shortage of basic necessities other than food.

There are floods, droughts and sea level rise nearby Pakistan. These non-traditional security threats are new to the agenda. Still Pakistan is unable to find alternatives from climate change. One can argue that non-traditional security threat cannot resolve ideally in any sense rather than it is the consistent approach towards best way. Resource scarcity is there in front of Pakistan that is always struggling with the sector.

There is no alternative of natural disasters but that does not mean that Pakistan cannot get better disaster management through proper planning. The sea level or Cyclones are there to provide a new way towards this non-traditional security threat like the spread of infectious disease as well. The global governance system at world level and Pakistan individually getting this issue on the rise so that impacts of such threat can decrease.

Challenges to Pakistan’s Security

The South Asian region has always been under the influence of extra-regional powers. The interplay of their strategic and economic interests considerably marred bilateral relations between states in South Asia, particularly Pakistan and India.

The international security scenario has long been under transformation due to major shifts in political, economic and strategic interests of states. In a contemporary era, incidents of 9/11 resulted in drastic changes in the security-related perceptions, concerns, policies and mechanisms of states across the globe. Among other regions, the South Asian security scenario has also undergone major changes during the last decade. In Pakistan, the internal security issues rose to a dangerous level and, hence, assumed greater prominence than external security threats.

The South Asian region has always been under the influence of extra-regional powers. The interplay of their strategic and economic interests considerably marred bilateral relations between states in South Asia, particularly Pakistan and India, hence posing challenges to regional security. At the regional level, taking conventional (external) security threats to Pakistan into consideration, its eastern neighbor India has long been regarded as a potential threat in view of the critical equation the two countries have experienced during the past six decades. And Pakistan’s western border remains porous and vulnerable to violence.

To allay all the misconceptions and allegations Pakistan faced over the years it needs to adopt a comprehensive strategy that encompasses all relevant sections of the state and society. As Pakistan’s general election nears, the new government would be required to work for internal security. And for a stable and prosperous Pakistan, internal security is imperative. Although external and internal security threats in Pakistan are tied together, they are required to be dealt with by separate strategies.
